AIA Orlando invites member participation in the Legacy2020 “Owner’s Workshop”

Participate in the Transformation

Following the adoption of an ambitious Ten Year Strategic Plan in March 2010, AIA Orlando has entered the implementation phase of our Legacy2020 initiative. On May 16, 2009, AIA Members participating in the Architectural Kickoff Workshop for Legacy2020 signed a banner symbolizing a commitment to be “Owner’s” of the Legacy2020 initiative. All AIA Orlando members are invited to come together with this group to continue efforts to shape the future of architecture in Central Florida. The purpose for this workshop is to review components of the plan, review progress to date and organize to translate priorities into operational plans. Opportunities are available for passionate volunteers in many areas including: healthcare, K-12 outreach, professional development, and technology/simulation.

  • Complimentary on-site parking is available
    (with your advance registration)
  • Bagels and coffee will be provided

THIS MEETING IS BEING RESCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER

  Vote NO on Amendment 4

Amendment 4 is a proposed amendment of Florida’s constitution which would require taxpayer-funded referenda on all changes to local government comprehensive plans. In other words, this “Vote on Everything” amendment would force Floridians – not the representatives they elect – to decide hundreds of technical comprehensive plan changes each year.

Campaign Messages

Fewer Jobs. Higher Taxes. Weaker Economy.

FEWER JOBS
Passing Amendment 4 will cost Florida tens of thousands of jobs and hurt working families. We’re in the deepest recession in our lifetime and it’s no time to pass an amendment that leading business groups call a “jobs killer.”

WEAKER ECONOMY
During these difficult economic times, the last thing we need to do is pass Amendment 4; experts say it will raise property taxes, hurt our sluggish economy, and make it more expensive to live in Florida.

HIGHER TAXES
Amendment 4 will mean higher taxes in order to pay for more elections, more litigation and more bureaucracy. Property taxes could hit record levels to cover the soaring costs of Amendment 4.

UNWORKABLE
Amendment 4 is so extreme and so poorly written that it doesn’t provide exceptions for vital community needs such as hospitals, police stations, fire trucks and new schools.

AMENDMENT 4 HAS ALREADY FAILED
St. Pete Beach has already passed a local version of Amendment 4; it’s been a disaster, costing local taxpayers nearly $1 million in legal fees.

9/08/10 Young Architects Forum Lecture (Wednesday, September 8th)

Join us for our next Young Architects Forum lecture!

Join Michael LeBoeuf, Principal at DLR Group on September 8th 2010, as he kicks off the Young Architects Forum (YAF) new PROSPECTIVE program with a lecture focusing on quality design and the culture of mentorship; referencing his portfolio of work and the unique studio environment found at DLR Group Orlando as a basis for his discussion.

Michael has practiced architecture for more than 30 years.  In each project he works to understand the important ideas of a project’s relationship to the broader contexts of its society and community—as well as the context of site and environment. He articulates these elements as built forms which create space that engages the human experience in unexpected ways. His work is of our time and place. (beverages for social will be provided by DLR Group and YAF Orlando)

Social: 6:00pm -7:00pm

Lecture: 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Location: 100 East Pine St. Suite 404, Orlando Florida 32801 Map
