Ronok Doolen Nichols, AIA, LEED AP
Vice President/President Elect
Ronok Nichols, Principal of DLR Group, has focused her career on community as a Justice and Civic architect. Considered a national expert and thought leader in the field, Ronok recognizes that the practice of architecture takes passion, commitment and a holistic approach. Ronok sees her responsibilities and influence as an architect extending well-beyond the design of projects. Ronok’s career has demonstrated a commitment to her community, to education, and to the profession. Ronok began her career in Orlando working for a large firm and teaching design studio at the University of Florida. Over the years, Ronok has maintained her commitment to education through firm crawls, involvement in mentoring programs, teach-ins, design jury commitments for Universities across the SE region. Ronok has been active in serving AIA holding numerous positions including State Director for the Orlando component. Some of the other past involvement opportunities include Design Awards Juror for the various Florida AIA components, Citizen Architect juror, Government Advocacy Committee member, FAPAC supporter, and Chair of Community Involvement and Awareness Committee for the local host chapter of the A’17 Conference on Architecture. On behalf of the AIA, Ronok has been involved in both local and state speaking engagements, including AIA Florida seminars on topics relating to community engagement. Ronok’s leadership was recognized by AIA when she became part of the first class of AIA Florida Citizen Architects in 2013. This acknowledgement came on the heels of the Orlando Business Journal’s recognition of Ronok’s business contributions to the community as the recipient of the OBJ 40 under 40 award in 2012. Early in her early career, Ronok was an officer in the AIA’s Young Architects Forum, participating in program development and planning. She was a design leader for the YAF Art in Architecture team that developed affordable housing for the Holden Heights neighborhood and also participated with the design of the 2nd generation of housing through this program in Winter Park, Florida. Ronok would later go on to become the recipient of the AIA Orlando Chapter's Young Architect’s Forum Achievement Award. Ronok was an active member of the Women in Architecture (WIA). She was part of the initial planning committee that served to shape WIA Orlando. She actively participated as the Lecture sub-committee leader creating a bridge between the AIA Programs Committee and the WIA Committee. The mission of the Lecture sub-committee was to promote the professional women in the design and allied professions of Central Florida. Ronok’s dedication to the advancement of her profession, contributions to local industry, charitable contributions to her community, and personal achievements are all vital qualities that function to contribute to the prosperity of her profession and her Central Florida community. Ronok is most proud that her dedication to her community and her profession will serve to teach her daughter valuable leadership skills coupled with compassion and selflessness so that the next generation of our community may be even more successful doers than our own.
Carrie Manes, AIA
Secretary
Carrie is a recently licensed Project Architect with Cuhaci & Peterson. Originally from Indiana, she moved to Orlando to work as an intern at C&P, and now has over 11 years of professional experience. Carrie has served on the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Orlando Next Generation program planning committee, the A’17 Conference on Architecture Host Chapter Booth committee, and is the current chair of Women in Architecture-Orlando. During her time as chair, WIA has held a number of successful events including networking socials, a yoga and wellness-focused gathering, a presentation on digital workflow, a building tour at Valencia College, and a sketching social. She recently helped to organize a networking social with the Central Florida Society of Women Engineers (SWE), National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Greater Orlando Chapter, and the AIA Orlando Allied Committee, and hopes to continue this partnership going forward. She has been a regular participant in the AIA Orlando “Committee of Committees” and discussions about how committees can work toward chapter goals and furthering its mission and vision. Carrie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Ball State University, and a Master of Architecture from the University of Florida through the CityLab Orlando program. She is a LEED Accredited Professional.
Trevor Boyle, AIA
State Director
Trevor is an Architect at HuntonBrady, a recent father, and a LEGO addict. He earned his Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Florida in 2010. After taking time to gain experience in the field he completed the Master of Architecture program in 2015 at the Orlando CityLab campus. He has stayed active with the University of Florida since graduation and has taught courses at both the Orlando and Sarasota CityLab locations. He has been involved with volunteer service both locally and statewide. He has been serving on the AIA Florida Board of Directors as the Associate Director-at-Large and advocates in the interest of the state’s young architects. He also serves on the committee for the Orlando chapter of the Young Architects Forum and is actively engaged in facilitating and attending local events for Central Florida’s emerging professionals.
Teresa Campbell, AIA LEED AP, WELL AP, RID

Teresa Campbell, AIA LEED AP, WELL AP, RID Associate Principal & Senior Vice President, HKS Architects Teresa Campbell is an award-winning Senior Designer for the Orlando office of HKS and is also the firm’s SE Regional Design Director, whose role it is to support & promote a high level of design within the region. Her career began in 1998 after completing a Bachelor of Design in Architecture and a Masters of Architecture at the University of Florida. Throughout her career, she has worked on numerous project types but found her calling in the mission driven purpose of healthcare architecture. In addition, Teresa is an active community participant. She has taught as a guest professor at the University of Florida’s City Lab campus as well as consistently served as a guest juror for the UCF Architecture Program & the University of Florida School of Architecture. Teresa is also currently serving her second term as the vice chair for the Mennello Museum of American Art Board of Trustees in Orlando, Florida.
Michael Compton, AIA, EDAC, LEED AP
Director At Large
Michael Compton has professional experience in many aspects of the built environment, including academic exploration and instruction, with the practical application of design and construction process ranging from initial client contact and design development to project management. I am an EDAC Accredited Professional, and a very strong proponent of evidence-based design practices, and teachings in the design community. Repeatedly demonstrating the ability to absorb abstract problems, represent the problem with sets of multidisciplinary decision criteria for solutions, and integrate clients in the process, resulting in a collaborative project to exceed all expectations. Understanding the spoken objectives relative to program, code, and budget opportunities while interlacing industry-leading research and application of value-added design responses. The ultimate goal is to provide successful design solutions benefiting not only the client’s programmatic need but the best healthcare space for patients and families.
Laura Lewis, PE
Allied Director
I am a practicing, registered structural engineer with a bachelor’s focused in Civil Engineering, Masters in Structures and Foundations and a Masters in Industrial and Systems Engineering with 20 years of experience. I am a Knight and a Gator. I have been involved in different facets of AIA Orlando over the years from Women in Architecture, an instructor for the ARE sessions for the Structural Systems portion of the ARE 4.0 and earlier since 2006, the Golf committee, and the Allied Committee. I have attended both the state and national AIA conferences. I, welcome, the opportunity to serve as the AIA Orlando 2019 Allied Director.
