Performance Based Fire Protection Engineering
Performance-Based Design: Your Key to Architectural Freedom
Building and fire codes govern the requirements for design and construction, dictating what can and cannot be built. Black and white, right? Well, not exactly. Satisfying prescriptive code requirements can become difficult when considering the architectural desires and building goals of the design team; this often results in solutions which are too expensive or inflexible. Performance-based design offers an alternative approach to fire and life safety which focuses on meeting or exceeding the intent of the code, while maximizing building function, preserving architectural vision and potentially reducing construction costs. Over the course of this presentation we will explore practical applications and opportunities to utilize this approach, as well as discuss the keys to successful execution.
