OBJECTIVES
To encourage excellence in architecture, bring public awareness to outstanding architectural design, and to honor and recognize those architects whose work enriches our built environment.
JUDGING CRITERIA
Each submission will be judged based on its value toward reflecting a broad and inclusive definition of Design Excellence. Entries are judged individually within each category and not in competition with other projects. The jury reserves the right to select the number and type of awards to be announced at the Awards Gala. Jurors will consider each submittal holistically, including but not limited to the following:

CATEGORIES
Project types can be, but are not limited to, the following:
Commercial/Industrial – Healthcare - Historic Preservation/Adaptive Reuse – Mixed Use - Entertainment/Hospitality - Government/Justice/Civic – Educational - Residential - Interior Architecture.
Awards will be granted in six categories:
STUDENT PROJECT DESIGN AWARD CATEGORY
This award recognizes unbuilt or competition projects by college students (in third year or above) attending a school of architecture program within our chapter territory or whose permanent residence is within our area. You may also submit within 1 year of graduation.
UNBUILT
Recognizes work by licensed architects with a focus on the process of design. Entries should depict outstanding examples of recent unbuilt work. Design can be under construction but not complete. Projects should have been designed within the past five years and can be located anywhere in the world.
BUILT
Recognizes design excellence in completed buildings. Projects submitted should have been designed within the past five years and can be located anywhere in the world.
TEST OF TIME
Recognizes distinguished single works of architecture and planned developments that continue to function and make an aesthetic statement after a period of 25 years or more. The project may be located anywhere in the world and must be standing in substantially completed form, in good condition. Change in use is permitted. Buildings that have been adapted or designated for reuse are eligible.
SMALL PROJECTS CATEGORY
Recognizes built projects under 5,000 SF.
RENOVATION/ADAPTIVE REUSE
Recognizes the restoration, renovation or adaptive reuse of an existing structure or site.
AWARD + MENTION LEVELS
AWARDS
Best in Competition – At their discretion, the jury may choose one entry among Award of Excellence recipients to receive this unique recognition
Award of Excellence – Bestowed to projects deemed to exemplify excellence of architectural design in all facets
Award of Honor – Bestowed to projects which display a high level of architectural quality and design
Award of Merit – Bestowed to projects the jury believes to be quality and substantial pieces of work
People’s Choice – Awarded based on a public vote of all projects submitted
MENTIONS
To be eligible to receive a mention, a submission must also be selected for an Award of Excellence, Honor or Merit. A mention cannot be a standalone award.
Mention for Sustainability – Given to a built project of quality design, that has pursued notable and measurable sustainable and/or regenerative strategies.
Mention of Community Impact – Given to a built project of quality design that has made an outstanding positive impact on the local community.
ELIGIBILITY
-
Entries, other than Student Projects, must be submitted by architecture firms with at least one AIA Orlando member with offices or practicing within the chapter’s regions (Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, Flagler, and Volusia Counties). Projects may be located anywhere in the world.

Projects located within the AIA Orlando chapter’s region but designed by AIA member(s) based outside of the Orlando chapter’s region may also be submitted.

Students, Associate, and Allied AIA Orlando members may submit projects in the Student Projects categories only.

Projects that have previously received an award from AIA Orlando are ineligible for the same category of award. Projects that have received an AIA Orlando Award for Built, Small Projects or Renovation/Adaptive Reuse in previous years are ineligible for another award.
CRITERIA FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS (POWERPOINT)

Submittals must contain a minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 PowerPoint slides per project; slides may contain more than one image.

PowerPoint file may not exceed 30MB.

NO identifying information may be present in the PowerPoint presentations regarding the entry or the entrant’s firm.

Include graphic scales and directional north arrows to ensure complete understanding of each project.

Presentations shall not include sound, animation, video, panorama movies, hyperlinks, or links to other files.

All entry materials must be submitted to AIA Orlando via wetransfer.com.
DIGITAL PROJECT BOARD
All Projects are required to submit a digital project board - Size: 16x16. Entrants shall design their own boards. The purpose of the board is for display at the awards ceremony as well as in the travelling exhibit, so it does NOT need to be confidential. We encourage you to add your company name as well as your project name on the board.
DATA SHEET CRITERIA

Submit 10 High Resolution Images of the project to be used during the awards ceremony.

Submit a Project Data Sheet.

Project data sheet should be a one-sided, single page, letter-size PDF.

Data sheet shall contain a single project image and a written description of the project to be used during the awards ceremony.

Written descriptions shall not exceed 300 words.
-
Compress Project Data Sheet and 10 Images into a single file.
