2019 was a banner year for WIA-O. We successfully executed a Decades Panel that focused on the concerns and goals of professional women at varying stages of their career. Later in the year we held a networking social where we invited women from parallel careers to discuss how their career path turned from the traditional architecture route. Our members found both of these events and others held throughout the year educational and inspiring and are excited to attend another series of events this year.
2020 will be an even more dynamic year for WIA-O. Our two major events for the year will be an exciting educational lecture concerning sustainability and impact of construction on surrounding environments as well as a woman owned business panel and networking event. We will also be offering a tour of a local health care building as well as monthly committee meetings to discuss relevant issues in architecture and equality in architecture. Additionally, we will be working with the Orlando Science Center in February and local high schools throughout the spring to educate the youth on what it takes to be an architect.
Furthermore, we will be working to raise funding to begin an Emerging Female Scholarship to help an eligible female secure licensure by covering the cost of an ARE exam. We are currently seeking Sponsors committed to WIA-O’s mission to provide support for the upcoming year.
