Thursday, November 11, 2021
6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Online | Zoom
Join us this November 11th at 6pm as we join forces with WIA Tampa Bay and WIA Miami to bring you an event you are sure to enjoy. We have gathered some very experienced professional women with different focus in their careers to create a panel and discuss a very interesting topic, “Innovative Construction Materials and their incorporation in design”. Below are abstracts for each of our panelists so you can get to know them before the event.
See you then!
Lisa Huang, AIA
Adjunct Lecturer, University of Florida Citylab-Orlando
Harvard University, 1997 Master of Architecture
University of Florida, 1993 Bachelor of Design in Architecture
As a registered architect, Lisa’s professional work since 1997 with leading architecture firms is an essential foundation for her research and scholarship today. International and national awards and publications have recognized Lisa’s design contributions as cutting edge and progressive in the architectural field. Her professional background demonstrates expertise in unique strategies of construction fabrication and building materials. Her specialization is two-fold within architectural design. First, it centers on innovative material assemblies and construction strategies. Second, it investigates pedagogical methods that improve the intersection of the architecture, design, and construction disciplines; thus, interconnecting academic study and professional practice.
Patricia Canevari, AIA, LEED GA
Senior Project Manager, Buildings + Places
Patricia’s focus on LED Technology will range from the most recent advancements in lighting and digital developments to the transformation of existing materials through the use of this LED technology to create new sensory-centric digital architectural materials. As a result, innovative materials are developed that not only improve construction processes, products, and services, but also enable architects and designers to plan, play, and construct with light, transforming spaces into unforgettable experiences. The integration of LED technology and existing materials has the potential to transform almost any indoor or outdoor surface—walls, ceilings, floors, corners, angles, and more—into a digital façade, floor, or ceiling, creating an experience that will ignite the imagination and inspire lasting impressions for years to come.
Shawna Meyer, AIA
Founding Principal, Atelier Mey Architects
Collaborator, University of Miami School of Architecture LU_Lab
The work of Shawna’s practice Atelier Mey acknowledges an obligation to confront the blase attitude towards architectural decision making responsible for shaping the natural and built environments. The undercurrent of economic interests serving as the alibi to undermine social, cultural, and ecological responsibilities clouds the significance of energy and environment as an architectural position. The overarching trajectory of her career is to pursue an attunement of architecture through the lens of energetics, matter, and the craft in their assembly. Through her practicing role as a principal of Atelier Mey and her academic role as a lecturer and researcher at the University of Miami School of Architecture LU_Lab, Shawna explores design through the act of questioning-without perceived bias.
