The Orlando office of VOA Associates Incorporated, architecture, planning and interior design is currently serving as Architect for a design-build contract for a new Child Development Center (CDC) at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), Parris Island, Beaufort, South Carolina. VOA, under contract with Prime Contract Holder and General Contractor, Sauer, Inc., of Jacksonville, FL, is providing full architecture, interior design and sustainable design services for the $8.42M project. Construction on the project began in December 2009, with completion expected for March 2011.
According to Ted G. Fery, AIA, LEED AP, VOA Partner, Southern Region, the new 25,603 square-foot facility is designed to serve 248 children and 63 staff members at the Parris Island MCRD. The project incorporates “green” strategies using sustainable techniques and materials that will qualify for LEED “Silver” status. The CDC will provide a large format service kitchen and multiple classrooms / playrooms as well as an outdoor playground with play ground equipment, water features, overhead shading structure, gated fencing, paving and landscaping.
