Be an ACE Mentor (Monday, July 26th)

The Orlando Affiliate of the ACE Mentor program is hosting a mentor recruitment meeting in preparation for the 2010-11 school year, and we encourage you to participate.  ACE Mentor is a national program that brings teams of mentors together from the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering fields to work with high school students who plan to study the design, engineering, and construction fields in college.  The Orlando Affiliate of ACE Mentor will begin its third year of operations in the fall and new mentors are needed to support the program.

Meeting information is as follows:

  • What: ACE Mentor recruiting meeting
  • Where: McCree General Contractors and Architects
500 E. Princeton St. Orlando, FL 32803 (map)
  • When: July 26th - 6 to 7pm

This meeting will provide an overview of the time commitment involved in the ACE program over the course of the school year.  The program currently operates in Orange County, at University High School, and in Seminole County – at Lyman High School.  After two successful years of operation the program is growing in popularity and word is spreading about its value to students who are interested in pursuing these areas of study.  With this increase in demand additional mentors are needed from virtually every aspect of the design and construction fields including architecture, interiors, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering, structural engineering, civil and landscape design, geotechnical engineering, and building contractors.  Since ACE Mentor is a national program, a wealth of resources exist to make the role of the Mentor a rewarding one, with a minimum amount of time commitment.  So if you have ever considered being a mentor for young students but felt that you were too busy or did not have adequate resources, you should certainly consider attending this meeting to find out how you can help.
