As a method to continue to serves its members across the country AIA National has supported Diversity and Inclusion at the chapter level. Various committees have formed across the country: Women in Architecture (San Diego), Women in Design (Kansas City), and Diversity Roundtable (Seattle) just to name a few. AIA Orlando would like to investigate our chapter’s response to Diversity and Inclusion.
What does this mean?
As quoted from AIA National Diversity and Inclusion website, “Diversity and Inclusion within the AIA is not strictly focused on race, ethnicity, and gender. We recognize that geographic location, age, physical ability, and many other elements combine to create separate and unique life experiences for every AIA member – your colleagues and interns – and your current and prospective clients, as well. Encouraging these differences and leveraging their potential can ultimately lead to heightened creativity and innovation within your firm, the AIA, and the profession.”
We are looking for a group of passionate individuals interested in formulating a committee which will attract, retain and empower members of our chapter from underrepresented backgrounds in the profession of architecture. For those interested in being part of AIA Orlando + Diversity and Inclusion, please contact Karen Jones for additional information (karen@aiaorlando.com) by Friday, June 18.
