SchenkelShultz Architecture Announces Groundbreaking on Recently Designed Expansion

SchenkelShultz Architecture, one of Florida’s leading green design firms, announced a groundbreaking will be held April 23 on its recently designed $8 million Naval Brig expansion at the Naval Weapons Station in Charleston, SC. Continuing its winning ways in the Department of Defense (DOD) market, this is the second major design/build contract in the past eight months, announced J. Thomas Chandler, AIA, President and COO of SchenkelShultz. The project comes on the heels of the firm’s August 2009 award of a $37.6 million design/build contract for a new K-8 School at Fort Bragg, NC, with Balfour Beatty Construction. “The DOD awards are part of the firm’s long-term strategic plan to further diversify our public sector institutional market presence,” said Chandler. Hunt Construction Group, Tampa, will be the design-builder for the Charleston project.

SchenkelShultz is celebrating 52 years of design excellence as a full-service architectural firm specializing in education, justice, aviation and commercial facilities design. With eleven offices nationally (seven in Florida) and 63 LEED® Accredited Professionals, SchenkelShultz is a recognized leader in green design that is committed to incorporating sustainable concepts into every project.

The firm’s sustainable design portfolio also includes: Stetson University’s Lynn Business Center, the first LEED®-Certified building in the state of Florida; the LEED®-Gold Certified Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University, the first LEED®-Gold Certified College of Nursing in the United States; and Signature Flight Support’s Boston Logan Executive Terminal, the first LEED® Certified general aviation terminal in the country.
