Award of Merit
This year the Award of Merit recipient is David Harrison, Ph.D., Vice Provost for the University of Central Florida
Thanks to the vision and leadership of Dr. David Harrison, Vice Provost for Regional Campuses at the University of Central Florida and Sanford (Sandy) Shugart, President of Valencia Community College coupled with the University of Florida’s School of Architecture and AIA Orlando, Central Florida will soon have its very own Bachelor of Design in Architecture program. Recently approved by the UCF Board of Trustees, this program will prepare students for a variety of careers, including professional architecture, construction management and industrial design.
Among David’s many responsibilities at UCF is the establishment of a Bachelor of Architecture in Design program. To facilitate this goal, he assembled an advisory committee composed of administrators, faculty and practicing architects who share a common goal establishing a successful architectural educational program by determining a clear and honest vision.

Nils M. Schweizer Community Service Award
This year the Nils M. Schweizer recipient is Michael Lingerfelt, AIA Florida President Elect and active member of the AIA Orlando Chapter
This award is given to recognize an architect whose leadership in community activities and service has been a direct benefit to the profession or community.
Michael Lingerfelt's initiative, energy and direction in bringing the California model for the post-disaster assessment credentialing program to Florida over the past three years has created a steadily growing pool of over 200 Florida Architects who are trained and ready to mobilize and assess the conditions of damaged structures in disaster-affected communities. In a hurricane prone state like Florida, this was a need that, until Michael’s involvement, had been un-met. The implementation of this program has been a substantial benefit to communities throughout the region and it has demonstrated the capabilities of our professional leadership, and important milestone toward the goal of our association to be of ever-increasing service to society.

President's Award
This special recognition award was given to John P. Ehrig, FAIA for his exemplary service for the AIA Orlando Chapter and dedication to the profession over the years.
John's leadership roles serving our profession paint an extraordinary picture of an Architect who is passionate about his profession. While in Tampa, John served as President of AIA Tampa Bay where he received the Chapter’s Medal of Honor. In Orlando, he served as Chapter President, was an active member of the Mayor’s Paramore Task Force and Chairman of AIA Orlando’s Affordable Housing Project “Art in Architecture” that has earned national exposure.
Appointed to the Florida Board of Architecture & Interior Design in 2008, John presently serves as Vice Chairman and we all know where that will lead him. By virtue of being a State Board Member, John is also a member of NCARB and was appointed to the IDP Supplementary Experience Task Force. We’ll see where John’s dedication and ambition take him on this, his second national leadership opportunity, having been elected to the AIA National Board of Directors in 1991 following his tenure on the AIA Florida Board and serving as our State President.
