Citizen Architect- Central Florida Political Leadership Institute

The Citizen Architect:

  • uses her/his insights, talents, training and experience to contribute meaningfully, beyond self, to the improvement of the community and human condition.
  • stays informed on local, state and federal issues, and makes time for service to the community.
  • advocates for higher living standards, the creation of a sustainable environment, quality of life, and the greater good.
  • seeks to advocate for the broader purposes of architecture through civic activism, writing and publishing, by gaining appointment to boards and commissions, and through elective office at all levels of government.

The deadline for submitting applications to the new class for the Central Florida Political Leadership Institute is Friday, October 16, 2009. There is no cost to participate. PLI graduates have been elected to county commission, school board and as Mayor and several are already running strong campaigns for the 2010 elections. This non-partisan program equips participants with the knowledge and skills to run a successful campaign, understand regional issues and serve as outstanding public leaders.

The AIA Orlando Chapter will host a panel discussion on “Green Incentives” on Tuesday, October 6th at 6 pm at the Orlando Main Public Library. Representatives from the City of Orlando, Orange County, Progress Energy, and Orlando Utilities will be on hand to promote the various “green programs” that each has to offer its customers. Also joining the panel will be a representative of the United States Green Building Council Orlando Chapter who will answer questions on how to make your next building project “LEED certified” as well as how to become a “LEED Accredited Professional.” The seminar will conclude with an opportunity for the audience to interact with the panelists.
