Free Online Continuing Education Courses

Ron Blank & Associates, an AIA cornerstone partner, now offers two new online courses sponsored by Timberlinx and NCFI. Each course provides 1 AIA/CES Learning Unit for HSW credit and takes an average of 1 hour to complete.

Improving Timber Connections Through Design
Upon completion of this course, the designer will be able to:

1. Compare traditional mortise and tenon (MT) joinery with embedded timber connectors
2. Identify parts of a common timber frame
3. Design for tension, compression, and shear utilizing steel embedded connectors
4. Explain the installation of an embedded timber connector
5. Specify different styles of embedded connectors for wood to wood, wood to concrete, and wood to steel connections

Upon completion of this course, the designer will be able to:

1. Define the components and applications of spray polyurethane foam (SPF) systems
2. Compare the characteristics of open-cell SPF and closed-cell SPF
3. List the benefits of using SPF systems for gravel and coated roofing systems
4. State the advantages of specifying SPF systems for interior and exterior insulation applications
