| Morse Museum: Friday Brown Bag Matinees |
Friday Brown Bag Matinees
The Museum's free film series is shown at noon on select Fridays in the McKean Pavilion, 161 West Canton Avenue (just behind the Museum). Each matinee lasts about an hour. Those attending are invited to bring a lunch. The Museum provides soft drinks. On the last Friday of each series, the Museum will host a special event and provide refreshments. *This will be our special event for the series. The field trip includes a tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings on campus as well as an update on the restoration and preservation of the buildings by Florida Southern College president Dr. Anne B. Kerr. Lunch will be at the historic Terrace Hotel in Lakeland. Museum membership is required, and there will be a $60 charge for the trip.

William Harrison will be speaking on the need for communication, collaboration and the integrated design process to ensure that buildings reduce energy consumption long after construction is complete to help realize his theme of “Maintain to Sustain”. “The unfortunate truth is that many buildings with great designs fade from green to grey when building operators don’t understand how to realize the full potential of the energy conserving systems they manage.” Mr. Harrison will also be speaking on the challenge to ASHRAE’s technical committees to produce the tools required to deliver on ASHRAE’s sustainability promise. |

2009 Chapter Recognition Awards

It’s important to the AIA Orlando Board of Directors and Design Awards Committee to recognize outstanding contributions in the design community. Please review the following Chapter Recognition Awards and nominate an individual or company in the industry.
Nominations can be submitted:
- electronically in a PDF format and emailed to Karen@aiaorlando.com or
- Delivered to the AIA Orlando office in an 8.5x11 black binder on Monday, February 9th.
Winners will be recognized at the 2009 Design Awards Gala on Saturday, March 14th. If you have any questions please give me a call.
Nils M. Schweizer Award
This prestigious award is given to recognize an AIA architect whose leadership in community activities and service has been a direct benefit to the profession or community. (Nils M. Schweizer Entry Form)
Award of Merit
This award was developed to give recognition to an individual citizen, public official, or member of an allied profession, who is not an architect, who has advanced the cause of good design and planning and/or has enhanced the public awareness of the value of architects and architecture to society.

Firm of the Year Award
This award recognizes outstanding achievement in design, community services, education, and service to the profession and the AIA by an architectural firm. Projects, accomplishments and service submitted must reflect a period of at least 10 years.

Contractor of the Year Award
This award is given to a company or firm in the State of Florida who has exemplified a sincere and genuine interest in encouraging and affecting outstanding craftsmanship and workmanship. The award is given to a company or firm in Central Florida who has exemplified a sincere and genuine interest in encouraging and affecting outstanding craftsmanship and workmanship on local projects, and has made a significant impact to Central Florida by its active involvement and leadership within the community.

Consultant of the Year Award
This award is given to recognize an individual or company in the state of Florida who, in acting as Consultant to an AIA member, demonstrates consistent dedication to superior standards of design, across a range of projects, and under varying conditions based on exceptional performance in the critical Customer Service areas of Client Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Project Management, Critical Thinking, and Specialist Knowledge.

Fred H. Pryor Young Architect Achievement Award
AIA Orlando and The Young Architects Forum (YAF) have initiated an award to honor and recognize a young architect who consistently demonstrates excellence and exceptional promise. Some criteria include a maximum of ten years out of school (with either a bachelor or masters degree), strong leadership qualities, and community involvement. (Fred H.
