Join us after work for hors d’oeuvres & drinks and kick off the New Year with your fellow AIA members! Plan to attend and greet old friends and meet new ones. We will also induct the 2009 Board of Directors for the Chapter. This event is free and will be held at the Round Building Downtown, 1st Floor (455 South Orange Ave., Orlando, FL 32801).
The new Orlando Performing Arts Center Model is located in the reception space and we will have a brief overview of the project's progress.
Reception will begin at 6:00 pm and brief presentation of OPAC will start at 6:30 pm following by the induction of officers. Free parking located near building after 6:00 pm.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Many factors must be considered when your design includes cold-formed structural steel framing members. An architect typically specifies that the framing must conform to C955 and C1007. This course will review the manufacture and installation requirements of structural steel studs per these ASTM standards based upon IBC 2006. It will also examine fire-rated assembly construction and loading capacities.

2009 Chapter Recognition Awards
(no entry fee required)
It’s important to the AIA Orlando Board of Directors and Design Awards Committee to recognize outstanding contributions in the design community. Please review the following Chapter Recognition Awards and nominate an individual or company in the industry.
Nominations can be submitted:
- electronically in a PDF format and emailed to Karen@aiaorlando.com or
- Delivered to the AIA Orlando office in an 8.5x11 black binder on Monday, February 9th.
Winners will be recognized at the 2009 Design Awards Gala on Saturday, March 14th. If you have any questions please give me a call.
Nils M. Schweizer Award
This prestigious award is given to recognize an AIA architect whose leadership in community activities and service has been a direct benefit to the profession or community. (Nils M. Schweizer Entry Form)
Award of Merit
This award was developed to give recognition to an individual citizen, public official, or member of an allied profession, who is not an architect, who has advanced the cause of good design and planning and/or has enhanced the public awareness of the value of architects and architecture to society.

Firm of the Year Award
This award recognizes outstanding achievement in design, community services, education, and service to the profession and the AIA by an architectural firm. Projects, accomplishments and service submitted must reflect a period of at least 10 years.

This award is given to a company or firm in the State of Florida who has exemplified a sincere and genuine interest in encouraging and affecting outstanding craftsmanship and workmanship. The award is given to a company or firm in Central Florida who has exemplified a sincere and genuine interest in encouraging and affecting outstanding craftsmanship and workmanship on local projects, and has made a significant impact to Central Florida by its active involvement and leadership within the community.

This award is given to recognize an individual or company in the state of Florida who, in acting as Consultant to an AIA member, demonstrates consistent dedication to superior standards of design, across a range of projects, and under varying conditions based on exceptional performance in the critical Customer Service areas of Client Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Project Management, Critical Thinking, and Specialist Knowledge.

Fred H. Pryor Young Architect Achievement Award
AIA Orlando and The Young Architects Forum (YAF) have initiated an award to honor and recognize a young architect who consistently demonstrates excellence and exceptional promise. Some criteria include a maximum of ten years out of school (with either a bachelor or masters degree), strong leadership qualities, and community involvement. (Fred H. | AIA Florida Distance Learning (2 Hours Advanced FBC Courses) |
It's time to make sure you have all of the courses you need to fulfill the state of Florida's requirement for continuing education. Required by the Board of Architecture & Interior Design, all registered architects in Florida are to complete a minimum of 2 hours of an ADVANCED FBC course each biennium. This advanced course is intended to introduce the key differences in the technical provisions in the 2007 Florida Building Code, Building and the 2007 Florida Building Code, Residential Code. The purpose of this course is to identify specific changes that have occurred and discuss the reason for the change to the code. This course will cover provisions with special significance, including new and innovative design ideas and technologies, modern materials, and methods of construction, in addition to current approaches to fire safety, life safety, and structural stability. Changes that resulted from updating to the 2006 International Building Code in addition to the relevant Florida-specific amendments will be addressed.
