AIA President

Welcome to Architecture Month!

It’s the time of year when we can associate with our peers and friends as well as stopping to reflect on our passion for the craft of architecture. As usual, the AIA Orlando Programs Committee has prepared a slate of exciting events to celebrate architecture. It all starts off with the Design Party. Hosted by the Allied Professionals Committee, it once again features Art by Architects. This event continues to grow and is a great showcase of all the artistic talents of architects in our community. If you have not yet attended this event, make plans to do so….you will be amazed at the variety of talents and exceptional artwork displayed.

Mid-month there will be a walking tour of the downtown core area hosted by the Women In Architecture Committee. This tour will look at the past, present and future of downtown Orlando and how it has been shaped by architecture. It’s a great opportunity to stop and explore our city rather than just passing through it on our normal routines. In addition, don’t forget about entering the Canstruction competition. This annual event showcases creative talent along with helping to supply needed food items in the community.

At the end of the month, there is a special treat for BIM-minded individuals. BIM BAM BOOM is a building information modeling design competition featuring a shoot-out between competitive software experts from Autodesk, Nemetschek and Graphisoft. There will be lots of fun and interaction during this design charrette. If you are a seasoned BIM user or just work around the edges, you will be sure to enjoy this exciting event.

These are but a few of the offerings to members during October. Be sure and take advantage of the many programs developed and share in the celebration of Architecture Month in Orlando!

Sincerely,

Bob Egleston, AIA
AIA Orlando Chapter President
