AIA Orlando welcomes you to the Fifth Annual Architecture Month program. We invite all members and friends to celebrate Architecture this October. Here are a few exciting events that AIA Orlando has scheduled.

We kick off the month with our fun and exciting AIA Orlando Design Party. This casual networking event will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Orange County Regional History Center. This year's event will include an art exhibition entitled "Art by Architects" that will feature artwork by AIA Orlando Chapter members. Be sure register early for this unique event.

In the second week of Architecture Month, we start with the Young Architects Forum event, NEXT 4 on Tuesday, October 9th. Next 4 is an event featuring 7 talented young designers from Orlando who are making an impact on the future of their fields. Each designer will present 20 slides in 10 minutes on the topic of their choice. Closing the week on Wednesday, October 10th, TLC Engineering will be hosting a CEU Seminar on wind code.

Movie Night, Wednesday, October 17th, AIA Orlando will be showing Grand Paris: The Architect and the President. Grand Paris is about the French President’s vision to turn Paris into a 21st century metropolis. The film will explore top architectural firms as they compete for the opportunity to transform Paris.

The following week we have an exciting lecture hosted by our Women in Architecture Committee on Tuesday, October 23rd.  The following day will be a hard hat tour of the Doctor Phillips Performing Arts Center; this is an opportunity to get a sneak preview of this new facility as it is being built.

Thursday, November 1st the Nils Schweizer Fellows will host a social and fireside chat at the Round Building. This will be one of your last opportunities to view the historic Round Building. Closing the month on November 3rd, Women in Architecture will be hosting a project tour of Florida Southern College.

We look forward your attendance! Bring architecture fans, family, and friends to any event and share in the fun of Architecture Month.

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Details: Why did the wind maps change? How does this affect my curtain wall design? How does it affect roof overhangs? Is the wind code more or less conservative than the previous code? How does it affect parapets? The wind load provisions have undergone a substantial reorganization to improve the clarity of applicability for the various design methods and procedures with the recent change to the Florida Building Code. We will address these and other questions regarding wind. This is a “can’t miss” AIA CEU opportunity for architects, code officials, and others involved in the design of buildings in Florida!
